Q: What do you recommend for Chaps?

A: Most customers use Ultrasuede ST for chaps. You can also use Ultrasuede HP if wanted a heavier type of chap, but this type is quite a bit more expensive.

Q: What kind of Ultrasuede should I use to back my bead embroidery?

A: The LT is quite thin (.6mm) and the ST is thicker (.7mm). We have customers who use both weights...the LT (thinner, lighter one) and ST (thicker and less flimsy) depending on their beading project. Most of our beading customers use the ST as they like the firmness when attaching the beads compared to the flimsy feel to the LT. Both are soft and drapey, with the ST having a more subtle drape.  You can request a sample of each at no charge if you'd like to see the difference for yourself. See above for how to order samples. Please note: LT has been discontinued, so many colors are selling out

Q: Is the Ultrasuede ST safe to laser cut/engrave?

A: There is no problem with laser cutting and we are not aware of any issue when laser embossing or cutting with runoff gas issues. Laser cutting is a normal process with our Ultrasuede.  To be extra safe standard eye protection and a mask should be more than adequate. We would recommend using only the Ultrasuede ST for any sort of laser cutting.

Q: Can I fringe any Ultrasuede?

A: The LT, ST, and RP should be okay to use as fringe. However, we would not recommend using the Elite or HP as fringe due to the HP being heavier and Elite being finer and able to rip.

Q: Would Ultrasuede work well with Embroidery?

A: Either ST or HP work very well for embroidery. There is no stretching and no mesh backing. There is no grain although there is a nap so be mindful of that. There should be no stretching over time unless you are adding more than thread such as embellishments.

Q: Which Ultrasuede is the Thinnest?

A: See below for thickness of each Ultrasuede type:
